Sneak peek at Entusiasta Gallery’s First Art Toy

They said they were going to do it—and they did. Argentine artists and founders of Entusisasta Gallery, David Pugliese and Jésica Cichero, will release their first art toy, the pirate Milbatallas, July 11th at the MuHu Museo del Humor in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The idea for the art toy Milbatallas, meaning “thousand battles” in Spanish, popped into illustrator David Pugliese’s mind a few years ago with a sketch. Like any avid fan of collectable figures, when the opportunity arose to make an art toy, he couldn’t pass it up. After teaming up with sculptor Pablo S. Sapia, they created the first edition of 20 copies casted in resin, bringing his dream to life.

The official presentation of the art toy will be on July 11th 2015 at 4.30 pm at the MuHu Museo del Humor, placed in the old Münich brewery’s building at  Av. de los Italianos 851, Puerto Madero, C.A.B.A., Buenos Aires, Argentina. Event guests include illustrator Jeremias Janikow and renowned comic artist, Enrique Alcatena. For those not in Argentina, the pirate Milbatallas is available by e-mail orders at entusiastagallery@gmail.com.

So, what can we learn from this? 1. Kidrobot is not the only art toy on the planet. 2. More importantly, don’t just dream it—do it.

I have no ambition to be mainstream: Uncovering the layers of artist Knut van Brijs

A message came in from Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina by artist Knut van Brijs. He shares his story and point of view through layers of collage.

Making collages, I get a chance to play with decontextualization by breaking common patterns.

Steampunk Kathrina

My art makes a statement by creating different points of view on many social or personal issues in my environment.

Clarissa on my mind

Experimenting with materials takes me on many visual adventures inspired by spontaneous brainstorming and Dada art.

Mind stalker

Each collage tells a different story, often as a social and artistic critique of the zeitgeist.

Mondiana

My art lives in the shadows.

Narcissa 001

I have no ambition to be mainstream. I am an underground rat eating the mainstream, choking and provoking the bourgeoisie.

FreshGhost is a self-taught artist currently living in Portland, Oregon USA. His paintings are done with acrylic paint on stretched canvas. Much of his work up until late 2013 had been a progression of geometrical improvised art done freehand with the occasional use of a compass for circles. More recently he has also been experimenting with stencils made from photographs and painting in a minimalist pop art style. The paintings are numbered rather than titled as a way to leave them open for interpretation.

Art Of The World: Peek Inside The Studio of Argentine Artist, Estela Cuadro

I received a surprise message from Argentine artist, Estela Cuadro, who wanted to share with us her day in the studio. So let’s talk art, music, and inspiration from Buenos Aires–her words, her story.

Alucinógeno

When I start my day in my studio, I want to listen to some music… It nourishes my imagination, it motivates me.

…I feel pleasure in that.  I feel like I never want to stop doing this. It´s part of my life.

When I begin a new artwork I used to use a special cardboard that allows the pigments and water to react in a special way; giving textures, shapes, deformations and then letting my imagination act freely.

Eminencia

I used lots of techniques, like pencil, small coal and oil. Especially when I was young.  Nowadays I like to use more than one technique at the same time, and make different results.

I use India ink with salt, and I let them act freely on the support. I use other things to generate texture, and I use oil painting, pencils and pens to realize details.

If I had to pick a style for my art,  it would be quite difficult. Perhaps I associate my work with surreal art.  My characters and their environment have nothing to do with reality.

The distorted reality is part of my inspiration, my contacts and my experiences. My artwork is based on the unconscious – all associated with my dreams, relationships & with life itself.

I don´t try to tell stories in my artwork. My work isn’t the realization of an illustration for a story, book or magazine (with a text behind the artwork).

Serie Mujeres Coquetas

There are always ideas or suggestions (of a story) but it’s not a literal sort of story. I take fun in other people’s freedom in interpretation.

Serie Otra Mujer Coqueta
Serie Otra Mujer Coqueta

I feel that it is important to feel total freedom without restriction and without much precise meaning. I like to leave the interpretation of each piece to each person, you can get carried away like I do in every piece of art.

Supergalactico
Supergalactico

I think each work has something special, they are part of my “games”, my pleasures.

Suprahumano
Suprahumano

When I talk about a “game” in relation to my work as an artist, I mean that’s the way that I have fun with the characters, animals and plants when my playfulness arise. You’re letting it flow! So you have to let go of the restrictions and really play with everything that is created, generating a new and unique artwork.

02_work01_work03_work04_work

I would say that the (core) passion about art, is to feel free, to have your mind open to all the things new that can appear.

Thanks,

ESTELA CUADRO
