The BET Hip-Hop Awards cyphers may be over, but the battle’s just begun

Picture 19
The thing about the west coast– we’re just now seeing the #HipHopAwards and all my ppl on the east already shared what happened lol.

As I sit here watching the Hip Hop Awards I get a message from North Carolina and OH MY GOD, BRANDY, QUEEN LATIFA,  YO YO, AND MC LYTE ARE PERFORMING, “I WANNA BE DOWN“!!! (excuse my outburst). Here’s North Carolina’s contributions to the 2014 BET Hip Hop Awards. Artists Yung Blaza, Nige Hood, Chaz and Rakeem put some of their most epic lines over East Flatbush Project’s Tried by 12

A ___ About Nothing: The “Unorthodox Genius” Cameraman

Anyone snapping pics with The Godfather of Soul (even as a kid) has a story worth listening to. Therefore, I’ll let (the now grown) photographer/filmmaker, Marceau Lewis, tell you the rest.

My name is Marceau (Marso) Lewis. I just moved to Los Angeles 4 months ago…

more specifically Long Beach.

And all I want to do is film and photograph.

I’m 24 years old, 25 in December, and I’ve been a cameraman for about 4 years now.

I film and photograph anything, and have yet to make a full time career out of it.

My brand is Unorthodox Genius. I have the best ideas and views about things in the most unusual or “unorthodox” ways.

I can bring the best out of anyone with or without a camera, but at least with it, I can let the world see it. -Marceau

Here’s the first of his growing film series that inspired the name of this post, ” A Video About Nothing.”

If you want to see more  of Marceau and his Unorthodox Genius work, check out his website, stalk his Facebook, add him on IG, or follow him on Twitter. He says you’ll like his twitter– “Most people say they’ve never seen anything like it before.” -Marceau

Special thanks to Marceau “Unorthodox Genius” for sharing.

Got a message from the dirty-dirty (do they still call it that?) from Charlotte, NC hip-hop artist, NiGE HOOD. He shares with us his latest music video, “A-Train”, featuring fellow emcee, Tim Stacks. Together they bring it back to 1996, teaming up on a slick cover to Jay Z classic, “Bring It On.”  Here’s his story.

North Cackalacky, stand up!

Shot by Tyler Coxxx of Sky Box Visuals , “A-Train” journeys through Charlotte, NC’s old neighborhoods, bringing nostalgia alive in this modern classic by NiGE HOOD and Tim Stacks.

Hear The Sounds of New Jersey’s Identical Duo

A message came in from Tru Fam— a hip-hop/alternative duo from New Jersey who wanted to share their latest music video with us. Well guys, you got it! The video, “Special” featuring Alecs, is trippy, but you’re not seeing double– they’re identical twins. So, here it is–their words, their story, their sound.

Picture 13

This music video is a dark /twist talking about some problems in relationships .

Picture 8

We all want to be treated equally in a relationship, so sometimes we have to remind our partner that they’re not so special.

So take a deep dive in this video and feel the words and passion.

We know what one another might want on a record without saying a word.” When they began making their own music they incorporated an Unique twist, of performing  songs first and then recording. This way the music could be built with feeling. Tru Fam tunes reach beyond the normal beats and intricacies. They're all about making records that the masses wanna hear and that has always been their goal. Tru Fam looks at the bigger picture and prides themselves on not just being another group on I Tunes. It’s a complex art, but the end objective is simple: “build a really solid fan base, who simply believes in our music and our brand ULTRACULTURE.”

If you want to hear more from Tru Fam, check out their website, like them on Facebook, or follow them on Twitter. (Or all 3, ha!)

Special thanks to Tru Fam for sharing.
